first collection

thanks to some serious efforts by my aunt and some girls from her church, were able to collect several bags of clothing to send to ethiopia. while we greatly appreciated the donations, not all of the clothes were practical for the orphanage, so several bags were donated to the boys and girls club in park city.
when my parents went down to american fork to pick up the donations, they took genet along and shared some stories from their trip to africa. it was a great experience for all involved and we SO appreciate the support. better yet are the kids who will benefit from these clothes.

welcome

hello and welcome to operation g. this blog will be updated as often as possible to track our donations, needs, and for current and future fundraising efforts. but first, the inspiration.

...

my parents had been trying to adopt for about three years. with two failed attempts, the option to try a third time was an emotional undertaking they weren't sure they could handle. when their agency contacted them, though, mere days after their second adoption fell through, with news of a new little girl, they, along with our family, decided to try it one more time. i wish i could say it was a walk in the park, but, long story short, things worked out and my parents and three of my siblings were able to travel to addis ababa, ethiopia to pick her up (july 09). they were welcomed to the thomas center, a facility founded and operated by their agency, and were greeted by all the children singing "welcome, welcome, welcome," and genet, my sister, their daughter, holding a bundle of flowers for my mom. of course the next few days were rough, stuck in a hotel room with a new daughter still unsure of the circumstances, but, once home, she slowly opened up and unleashed the firecracker personality that fits into our family so well. of course there are still frustrations, a language barrier, and difficult moments (or hours...), but the reality that she is here and here to stay makes it all okay. and, now we know that the wait for her was right. the journey was hard, but has made the victory all the better.
